A few years ago, the Amazon Kindle Team set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device about the size of, and typically lighter than, and as easy to read and use as a paperback book, but with the ability to wirelessly download and store multiple books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers from almost The Amazon Kindle. Actual size: 7.5in. x 5in. x 0.7in. anywhere. The result is the amazing Amazon Kindle.

ADVANCED DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY
Amazon designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen.

Thanks to a revolutionary new high-resolution display technology called electronic paper, Kindle provides a crisp black-and-white screen that resembles the appearance and readability of printed paper. The screen works using ink, just like books and newspapers, but displays the ink particles electronically. It reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlighting, eliminating the glare associated with other electronic displays. As a result, Kindle can be read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room. And yet the screen never gets hot so you can comfortably read as long as you like.

Because one size doesn’t fit all, you can increase the text size of your favorite book or periodical with the push of a button. If your eyes tire, simply increase the font size and continue reading comfortably. Kindle has six adjustable font sizes to suit your reading preference.
Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It is designed for ambidextrous use so both "lefties" and "righties" can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time.

WIRELESS DOWNLOADS ALMOST ANYWHERE, ANYTIME
The designers at Amazon wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so they made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, Amazon delivers your content using their own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (EVDO) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, download, and read content on the go. So, unlike WiFi, you’ll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, monthly wireless bills or wireless setup—Amazon pays for Kindle's wireless connectivity so you search, download and read right out of the box.

With Whispernet, you can be anywhere within Sprint's wireless phone/data network coverage area, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven’t read the book for tomorrow night’s book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you’re in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand. (Note: There is no wireless coverage available currently on Sprint’s data network for Kindle in Montana and Alaska.)

BROWSE NEW BOOKS FOR FREE
And because we know you can't judge a book by its cover, Kindle lets you download and read the beginning of books for free. This way, you can try it out—if you like it, simply buy and download with 1-Click, right from your Kindle, and continue reading. Want to try a newspaper as well? All newspaper subscriptions start with a risk-free two-week trial.

HUGE SELECTION AND HUGE CAPACITY
As of June 2008, Amazon has more than 125,000 books available, including more than 98 of 112 current New York Times
® Best Sellers, and they are literally adding more every day. Because Kindle eliminates the standard printing and shipping costs of standard books, the Kindle Electronic Editions of books are typically significantly cheaper than their printed counterparts.  All New York Times® Best Sellers and New Releases sell for $9.99, unless marked otherwise, and most other books are available at a price significantly discounted from the print version price. And you can download and read first chapters for free before you decide to buy.

While Kindle is lighter and thinner than a typical paperback - it is only 7.5” x 5” by 0.7" and weighs only 10.3 ounces - you can hold over 200 titles in it's memory at one time. Kindle w/protective book cover (l) and New York Times (r). An optional SD memory card lets you hold even more. In addition, a copy of every book you purchase is backed up online in Your Media Library in case you ever need to download it again. This allows you to make room for new titles on your device, knowing that Amazon is storing your personal library, which can always be re-downloaded wirelessly. If you are out of wireless coverage, such as traveling overseas, you can download books to your computer from Your Media Library and transfer via USB to your Kindle. Think of it as a bookshelf in your attic—even though you don't see it, you know your books are there.

You can also subscribe to top U.S. newspapers including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post; top magazines including TIME, Atlantic Monthly, and Forbes, top international newspapers from France, Germany, and Ireland; Le Monde, Frankfurter Allgemeine, and The Irish Times—all auto-delivered wirelessly, and often before the print editions are available.

Kindle also provides access to more than 300 top blogs from the worlds of business, technology, sports, entertainment, and politics, including BoingBoing, Slashdot, TechCrunch, ESPN's Bill Simmons, The Onion, Michelle Malkin, and The Huffington Post—all updated wirelessly throughout the day.

And you'll never be without a dictionary. Kindle includes The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 entries and definitions, so you can seamlessly look up the meanings of words without interrupting your reading. Never fear a sesquipedalian word again—simply look it up as you go. Plus Kindle includes free wireless access to the planet's most exhaustive and up-to-date encyclopedia—Wikipedia.org.

You can also Email your Word documents and pictures (.JPG, .GIF, .BMP, .PNG) to Kindle for easy on-the-go viewing.

HIGH CONVENIENCE, LOW PRICE

For all that capability, Kindle has a long battery life; leave wireless on and recharge the
user-replaceable battery approximately every other day. Turn wireless off and read for a week or more before recharging. And Kindle fully recharges in 2 hours.

For your convenience, you can shop the Kindle Store directly on Kindle or on your PC via Amazon.com. Either way, all titles are wirelessly delivered right to your Kindle for free. Amazon.com pays for the wireless delivery charges so you don’t have to. Buy a book via your Kindle or your PC, and Amazon.com will auto-deliver it to you wirelessly in one minute.

To top it off, because Kindle has proven so popular and sold so well, Amzon.com has dropped the price of the Kindle, you can buy the complete Kindle package, including protective book cover-style holder, AC Power adapter/charger and USB 2.0 cable for only $359. That's a $40 dollar savings over it's original price; savings enough to add four complete best-selling books for you Kindle and still pay less than the original price for the Kindle alone.
